Spirit

  • Musikaliska Nybrokajen 11 111 48 Stockholm Sweden (map)

In Spirit, Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble has chosen to explore composers who express cosmic connections and transcendence in their music.  A special collaboration with American artist Joanne Grüne-Yanoff will result in the world première of a video installation, “Threads”, which comments independently on the Piano Quartet of Latvian composers Peteris Vasks. Vasks wishes to nourish the soul with music, in an era which he feels lacks ideals, hope and love. As a complement, George Crumb’s Vox Balaenae  challenges the musicians to imitate the song of whales with their instruments, and perform as actors. For this piece, the ensemble is joined by Adam Walker, solo flutist in London Symphony Orchestra.

American Artist Joanne Grüne-Yanoff last exhibited in Stockholm with a solo exhibition at Liljevalchs Konsthall in 2009. Since then, her work has been exhibited internationally in solo exhibitions in cities including New York, Berlin, Helsinki and Luxembourg, among others.  The artist returns to Stockholm, now her adopted hometown, to share her latest work in a solo exhibition at Detroit Stockholm, opening 11 April, 2014.
